Contemporary photographer Kate Carrigan was born and raised in New York City. She eventually began working as a commercial photographer and within a couple of years she was creating and selling her own work. In Carrigan’s imagery she is interested in capturing reality with the camera. But it is her personal version of reality that defines her finished artworks. “What the camera captures is only part of the picture,†Carrigan explains, “To communicate the entire experience I prefer to add my touches and enhance the image. Dimensional perspective, colour perceptions, and fleeting instants of light that someone experiences in a given moment are not always present in a simple photograph.â€
